What is ROOTs?
ROOTs is the Garfield County Youth Leadership Retreat. ROOTs stands
for Recognizing the Opportunities Of Tomorrow.
In the Fall of 1996, a group of Enid citizens decided to take a proactive approach to address the issue of our best and brightest students graduating and never returning to Enid. Their goal was to get more top students to call Enid home as adults. The best way they knew how to do this was to take students into the community, introduce them to community leaders, and show them Enid from a young professional's perspective. Although the schedule of each year's ROOTs retreat is different, the purpose remains the same.
This year's retreat will show the Class of 2016 what career, quality of life, and leadership opportunities can be found in Enid. This fast-paced, behind-the-scenes look at their hometown will open their eyes to the possibilities around them. They will be encouraged, applauded and inspired as they kick-off their senior year.
The free, two day, overnight retreat will begin at 8:00am on Monday, August 10th and end at 5:00pm on Tuesday, August 11th. All area high school seniors graduating in 2016 are encouraged to apply. All meals, transportation, and accommodations will be supplied. Class members will also receive a ROOTs 2015 t-shirt. Additionally this year's class members will be eligible for the first-ever ROOTs Scholarship.
Applications are due by 4:30pm Friday, May 8th. Students may email completed applications to [email protected] or deliver them to the Enid Regional Development Alliance office at 2020 Willow Run (located behind Autry Tech).
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact ROOTs 2015 Chairman Jennifer Kisling
